Inspiration

At times, for reasons I can’t quite explain, I’ve tried to run away from God, tried to deceive Him, tried to earn His love or tried to do things for Him.  Very strange behaviour but evidence that, deep within me, there is still a mistrust of the Gospel. On some level I still find it hard to accept that Jesus really loves me, just as I am, without me doing anything to justify that love.

I used to think that if I was really praying then I would be making a conscious effort and that if I was getting it right I would feel like I was getting it right.  I’ve since discovered that prayer is really just allowing myself to be with God.  The only ‘effort’ is  to make the time to spend with Him.  If I can’t verbalise what’s going on within me that’s OK, He already knows it all anyway.  There is a peace that comes from just accessing that place within my heart where Jesus is waiting to spend time with me.  I can’t get to that place through my own efforts.  I just have to be faithful to coming to prayer and allow Him to do the rest.
