Speaking Heart to Heart
Inspiration
I have spent a great chunk of my life being afraid to let anyone really know me. Looking back I can see that I was afraid that if people knew the real me they’d walk away. Over the past few years Jesus has healed me dramatically in this area. He started by giving me the courage to let one friend in, kept me safe during the agonising vulnerability of doing so and is still helping me to see that the real me isn’t so bad!
This song came after another friend allowed herself to be vulnerable with me. It made me realise that real relationship with each other is a gift from God, He is the One who makes it possible. He is the One who will take away the fears that keep us isolated from each other- if we allow Him to.
Sometimes God chooses to heal us through our relationships, by taking the risk of letting someone really know us. It’s horribly vulnerable, often messy, but worth it. Perhaps ‘building the Body of Christ’ happens one painful, vulnerable relationship at a time.
Lyrics
You are the God who takes away the fear
Of letting anybody come too near.
Washing away damaging suspicions.
Overcoming isolating inhibitions.
Now we can see You in each other,
Fear doesn’t have to keep us apart.
We can let ourselves be truly known.
Finally speaking heart to heart.
Finally speaking heart to heart.
Building the body of Christ.
Making You present in the world.
Only achieved by grace.
So come, Lord, come. Come, Lord Jesus, come.
It is our brokenness that makes keep our distance.
Fear of rejection makes us stay away.
Yet You choose to heal us through one another,
Healing comes through vulnerability.
Building the body of Christ.
Making You present in the world.
Only achieved by grace.
So come, Lord, come.
Come, Lord Jesus, come.
Now we can see You in each other,
Fear doesn’t have to keep us apart.
We can let ourselves be truly known.
Finally speaking heart to heart.
Finally speaking heart to heart.
Take away the fear. Take away the fear. Take away the fear.
Build Your body, Lord. Build Your body, Lord.
